Obituary for Phillip Ervin Simon

Phillip Ervin Simon, 66 of York, peacefully entered his heavenly home Tuesday, January 2, 2019 at Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Luchious, Jr. and Etta Mae (Nettles) Simon. After the death of his mother, Phillip’s maternal grandmother Alma Nettles adopted him and his two siblings.

Phillip was born on July 9, 1952 and upon graduating from Mayo High School in Darlington, South Carolina, Phillip moved to York, PA briefly then moved to Philadelphia, PA where he was employed for 17 years at Greyhound Bus Company where he retired from. Phillip relocated back to York in 1987 where he was employed by multiple employers including Shiloh Baptist Church, St. John Lutheran Church, Graham Engineering and Brogue Hydroponics. Phillip was a dedicated, hard-working, kind-hearted individual and was gifted with the spirit of HELP.

Phillip accepted the Lord at early age, and he was a member of Mount Rona Baptist Church, Darlington, South Carolina. After relocating to York PA, he was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Cornerstone Baptist Church and he currently was a member of Jabez Ministries. Ushering was a passion that he enjoyed and it showed through his personality. Phillip was a sponsor for Narcotics Anonymous and was very passionate about mentoring anyone in need. Some of his interests were going to the gym, dancing, spending time with God, his grandchildren and his family. He will be missed for his smile and his warm generous heart.

Phillip leaves to cherish his memory a daughter Elaina Zech; one brother Ronnie Nettles of Lady Lake, FL; two sisters Donnie M. Gibson (Pastor Conrad Gibson) of Dover, PA and Sharon Simon of Philadelphia, PA; two precious granddaughters Laniya R. Smith and Egypt L. Smith both of York, PA; a special aunt/sister Estelle Samuel (Frank, Jr.) of York, PA as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and a host of friends.
