Obituary for William Albert Baxter

William Albert Baxter affectionately known as Bill, Mr. B, Dad, Daddy, Granddad, Pop-Pop, Uncle Albert, Grand pop B and Baxter, was called home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2019.

William was born on July 1, 1927 to the late William Edmond Baxter and Margaret (Heuitt) Baxter in Rocks, Maryland. He received his education in the Maryland and Pennsylvania school systems. After graduation, he enlisted and served in the United States Army. When he returned from service he attended Thompson's Business School and York Jr. College. In 1952 he married Naomi C. (Walton) Baxter. They were married for 67 years and had 2 children.

William was employed at the New Cumberland Army Deport where he retired with 30 years’ of service as a supply clerk. After retiring from the Army Depot he worked for Grinnell Manufacturing, retiring again, after 10 years of service. In addition to his full-time jobs, William had several part-time jobs and business ventures. He was owner and an operator with his wife of ALCON Beauty Salon (before afros and perms) and he also owned several properties and a farm that he rented.

Both William and his wife were active members of New Beginnings Fellowship (formerly St James United Methodist Church) in Maryland until his health prevented them from attending. William loved his family and when he wasn't working he enjoyed reading, playing cards and going to the horse races.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife, Naomi, of 67 years, sister, Joyce McGrady and five generations his children Arlene Bones, Bernard Baxter (Trayce), Lynette Baxter, York, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one son -William Akins, sisters - Mary Buchanan, Anna Baxter, Pauline Tasko, brothers - John Baxter, Wendell Baxter, Samuel Baxter.

Lovingly submitted,

The Family

Sometimes it’s hard to understand why some things have to be,
But in his wisdom, God has planned beyond our power to see,
God watched him as he suffered, and knew he had his share,
God gently closed his loving eyes and took him in his care.
